Cleaning Up

Here is a snapshot of progress in an attempt to mitigate the piles. You can see more of the above card here. I'm very ready for a break. For me, this time of year is best for hanging out with family and collecting my thoughts on this past year as well as what I hope for in the year to come. Don't you think?

A Loosing Battle

Tidbit for the day: It seems like every surface in the studio is covered with some kind of stack. Maybe it is just the time of year, but we are constantly at war with "the stack."

Pink + Green

Finally! After a little over 1 year, there is new work up in our shop on Etsy. The cards have actually been finished for a while, but getting them up online... that's another thing all together. There are 8 new "holiday" cards so please, take a look, imagine something 100% more awesome than the picture and order some!

Feliz + Satsuma

So a lot of exciting things happened last weekend:

1. My new camera showed up! Now, I can get back to posting things here. It is a "real" camera, so I'm also going to have to learn a new thing or two.

2. The Feliz sale made its debut. Such an amazing event! If you didn't get a chance to go, you should at least check out the line up.

3. Last, but definitely NOT the least... I met my letterpress idol, Lynn with Satsuma Press. I was so excited when I found out she would be at Feliz. It took me a little while to work up the courage to introduce myself. Thankfully, I did. She is just as lovely in person as she is online.

Entertaining with Eggs

My good friend Chelsea, who I have mentioned countless times here, came over last month to take pictures of us for Camille Styles blog. Admittedly, it was a little nerve racking, but all-in-all fun!

I was going through the photos from my escape-the-August-heat-trip and came across these. I like to think the brayers in the top helped make the print on the bottom. We visited the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Two Rivers, WI. I would love to be able to spend a few months in there just experimenting on press with all of the fantastic type!

Presentation is everything. We are currently brainstorming new ways to make ours better! I can't wait to share the final results.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

We've been trying to get out of the studio and take some design centric field trips lately. This past week we visited the Rob Roy Kelly American Wood Type Collection at my alma mater. That is where I found this gem (not technically part of the collection, but still). It took all of my willpower not to stuff it into my bag and run!

The Style Effect

The past few months, we have been working with Ashley at The Style Effect. She is a talented stylist that will help with anything from putting together great outfits to making your special events perfect from top to bottom. If you are in the DC area, give her a call! If not, I know she is always up for travel. The cards above are designed and letterpress printed by Studio SloMo.

Finally, a new post. My good friend Chelsea with Go Forth Creative was over here the other day snapping photos will all different types of cameras. This REAL Polaroid makes me happy. Chelsea's inspiration for the day: Derrit's socks!

On the Edge

Check out the sweet edges on these cards I designed + printed for a jazz pianist here in Austin. Now, go see him play!

Fun in the Sun

Here is another detail from some invites we just finished up. I love how the direct sunlight creates shadows in the impressions.

Sweet and Sour

Here is a little selection of things I found at Whole Foods to use as props for taking pictures. Turns out Mango Licorice is kinda tasty + looks more like a plastic french fry in pictures than the yellow Twizzler I was expecting. Oh well! The shoot went well until I realized the camera was set for low-res. Such a rookie mistake...

So far this year I have really neglected this blog. I wonder how many millions of times that has been written in the blog world. Oh well, so much for original content! Anyway, this morning I took this picture of the poppies in my garden. I'm so happy that they actually bloomed this year. Last year it was too dry and they just looked pathetic and sad. I feel like the whole city is blooming literally and figuratively. We all needed some rain... Now - back to work.

These wedding invitations have been a lot of fun to put together. I am waiting on some stamps to arrive, then they will off to the blushing bride!

Recently, I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with Regan Baker. She is a talented interior designer who just moved back to Austin from San Francisco. Please, check out her work, give her a call, and hire her for your next home improvement project!

Costa Rica

This was a fun type project. It can be nice to print on something other than cotton paper for a change. Thank you anemone for sacrificing a few more days in the vase for my picture.

Here is a glimpse at the new wood type I treated my self to at the end of 2011. I just couldn't help myself...
